Distance Education

The School of Social Work offers both the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and Master of Social Work (MSW) degree programs through distance delivery via the Internet. Studying by distance offers students an opportunity to study in their home community with the ability to continue to work and participate in family and community life.

The BSW program by distance is delivered on a full time (24 month schedule) and part-time (over three year) basis.

Bachelor of Social Work Program

The MSW program by distance is delivered on a part-time basis completed over three years in a prescribed sequence.

Master of Social Work Program

Students enrol in the same core courses and elective offerings as students studying on campus at Dalhousie University.  The degree requirements for both the BSW and MSW by distance delivery are the same as they are for campus delivery.

The BSW and MSW programs by distance offer a rich and highly interactive learning environment.  Students in our programs live in communities across Canada bringing a diversity of perspective and experience to the online classes. You will be required to actively enagage in course content online through a variety of course tools, including discussion boards, chat, and other interactive media. The BSW and MSW program courses are offered through Blackboard Learning Systems (BLS), an Internet-based learning management system.  To learn more about BLS at Dalhousie visit Integrated Learning Online.

The School of Social Work has a dedicated team to assist students and faculty in the online environment.  If you have questions regarding distance delivery of both the BSW and MSW programs, please contact the Distance Education Coordinator.
